Our Most Magnificent Moments of 2020

Our Most Magnificent Moments of 2020

What a year, eh? For us it has been a year that we literally never dreamed of! At the beginning of 2020 Magnificent Marrow wasn’t even an idea that we had contemplated but when the world changed, we had to change with it and what a ride the last nine months have been.

Like for everyone, it has been a hard year; starting a new business during a global pandemic was never on the ‘to do’ list but out of darkness comes light and we have so much to be grateful for; we have learnt so much along the way and have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. So, with the end of 2020 just around the corner we wanted to look back on the positives that this year has given us and take a moment to reflect on just some of the Magnificent Marrow moments of 2020.

From 3 to 13

When we started Magnificent Marrow it was just the three of us - myself, Leigh and Nadine. The Saturday morning after lockdown Leigh and I came up with the idea to launch a delivery service that could help those who were struggling to access food and within 24 hours Nadine had built the website. By the Wednesday we had launched and by the Friday I was delivering the first Magnificent Marrow boxes. We now have a team of 13 people, many whose jobs had been impacted by Covid-19. We couldn't have done this without the people who have invested their hearts in this with us and who are the reason Magnificent Marrow is a reality.

Magnificent Marrow HQ

Looking back it was crazy how it all began. We were using the forecourt of one of Leigh’s contacts at the fruit market to park our van which we were then packing the boxes out the back of. We had 20 orders the first day and I delivered them all myself, after being up all night writing my delivery notes because we couldn’t get printer ink because of the lockdown. In May we moved into our very own warehouse and to have a Magnificent Marrow HQ with our name above the door was truly an exciting day. It was also an important step in being able to grow our offerings for our customers.

It all started with just three boxes

In the last nine months we have gone from selling three types of boxes to offering a huge variety of farm-fresh fruit and vegetables, stunning deli goods, responsibly sourced meat and fish, mouth watering baked goods, delicious cheeses, gorgeous flowers, stunning hamper boxes and so much more. It is with thanks to our amazing customers who are always giving us feedback and who we have listened to, that we now have a one-stop shop where we aim to provide top quality produce for all our customers needs. We have such exciting plans for our offerings in 2021 and can't wait to continue working with our amazing suppliers, plus building relationships with new ones.

We went nationwide!

In July we were so excited to launch our nationwide delivery service. From delivering in and around London and in a few areas further afield, it was such a momentous moment to be able to send out our Magnificent Marrow boxes to customers around the country. From those ordering for themselves to those who sent our boxes out as gifts, it really was an exciting time to be able to see our boxes being enjoyed nationwide.

Let’s go shopping!

In the summer we started a pop-up market every Saturday selling everything we sell on the website and the reaction that we got from the locals in South London was amazing. We were running it from outside our warehouse and despite being tucked away we were always busy with regulars coming every weekend. So, when the shop premises came up five minutes from our HQ it just felt like the next right step to take.

In October we opened the doors and we have loved meeting so many people who supported us in the beginning, as well as making friends with lots of new regular customers. In a year where real life interaction has been at a minimum it has been a joy to make connections with so many of our customers.

Hot off the press!

Seeing our name in print never gets old and this year we have received mentions in some amazing publications. From interviews with the Telegraph, the Wimbledon Times and Red magazine, we have also been featured on some great blogs and talked about by some brilliant chefs and foodies.

And it hasn’t just been fabulous press coverage that has helped spread the Magnificent Marrow word, but our truly amazing customers, who have shared and tagged us across social. We have loved seeing you all enjoy your deliveries and we can’t say thank you enough for all the love and support you have shown us.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and all-round better 2021. Happy New Year!

Love,

Emma, Leigh and the Magnificent Marrow team
